We spend a lot of time asleep in bed – about a third of our lives in fact. People also spend a lot of time and effort finding the right mattress and base to make their bed as comfortable as possible for the best sleep…. but if you’re anything like me your pillow gets overlooked in the process. Have you thought about the condition of your pillow? How old it is, or if it’s even comfortable anymore? Having a great pillow can make a huge difference to how well you sleep. When should you replace your pillow?
You may have noticed that online mattress sales have really exploded lately. You might be bombarded with billboards advertising them as you go about your day. Perhaps your friend bought one. They’re everywhere now and the market is only expected to grow. So if you’re looking to buy a new mattress, how can you tell which is the best mattress store online?
If you’ve read the blog here at bestmattressforyou.com in the past, you will be aware that my husband and I made our very own online mattress purchase at the start of January: we bought an Ecosa Memory Foam Mattress.
You may have read my previous posts about our journey so far with our Ecosa:

So now I figure it’s a good time to give you an update on how we are going with our Ecosa Memory Foam Mattress, which we have now owned and slept on every night for eight months.
There are SO MANY mattress review sites around these days. This is no big surprise, since there are hundreds of mattresses you can now choose from online. BUT: it’s confusing knowing which mattress will suit you, and it can be confusing trying to figure out which reviews are actually going to help you with your mattress research and purchase.
I’ve got 9 reasons why my reviews are the best you’ll find.
Buying a mattress online can be an absolute minefield. Not only is there a confusing plethora of options, there are tons of mattress review sites too. These sites (including mine, which you’re reading right now) are all writing what they think are the best or most helpful bed in a box reviews. You’re probably looking for a mattress online because you’re sick of spending time with sleazy salesmen in stores, and just want to make a great decision based on solid information you can trust, right?
If you have read any of my blog posts, you’ll know that at the start of the year my husband and I bought ourselves a new mattress. What did we do with our old one? Well, it sat in our entrance way for months while we decided what to do with it.Andrew finally had the great idea of salvaging the materials inside the pillowtop (in case we ever wanted a topper for our current mattress) and dismantling the rest to go to a local recycling yard. So, we totally ripped the mattress apart! I took photos of what we found inside to share with you.I also figured out very quickly why the mattress was sagging as soon as we had it all open. I’ll explain that later.
Following on from my previous post, where I shared some fun and quirky sleep facts with you, now we will look at some shocking sleep facts. I wasn’t sure whether to describe these as shocking or frightening, perhaps they are both. These five facts reveal the shocking toll not getting enough sleep takes on our health. And I’ve only chosen a few! Once you’ve read through these, you’ll be scrambling to ensure you get a good nights rest tonight, and all the nights!
Writing about mattresses day in and day out can get a little dry at times, so today I’m bringing you a bit of a light hearted blog post. Since the main job of a mattress is to help you sleep, I thought why not take a look at some cool sleep facts? I have written articles about the importance of sleep etc, but let’s have a bit of fun today. Who knows, you may even be able to impress your friends with some of these random bits of knowledge! Here are five cool sleep facts and three scary ones.
This article is a bit of a story of personal experiences along the way of a recent trip my family had to take recently. Always on the look out for articles to write that are helpful for you, I decided I’d pay special attention to the beds I slept in on my trip.I have to say, the beds have been pretty terrible, which is not good for me, but it’s great for you because it means I can give you two really obvious ways of how to tell if a mattress is worn out and exactly what that felt like, based on the two mattresses I have had to sleep on this trip.
According to USA Today, the online mattress business went from “nothing to a $1.5 billion dollar business in the blink of an eye”. The pace does not look like it is giving up any time soon: my research on mattresses shows that popular models are selling thousands and thousands of mattresses per month. There are now more than 150 retailers offering to sell you a mattress online in the United States alone. Let’s take a look at how this all started, and some of the reasons why I think online mattress purchases are soaring. I’ve also included a cool video at the end which shows the thing that’s really made this all possible.
If you’ve read the blog here at bestmattressforyou.com in the past, you will be aware that my husband and I made our very own online mattress purchase at the start of January: we bought an Ecosa Memory Foam Mattress. We have now been sleeping on it for two months. I last wrote after I had been using the Ecosa Memory Foam mattress for about a week. How are we finding it now?
A lot happens while we are asleep, we don’t simply shut down, paused to resume action the next day when we wake up. Sleep isn’t even one entity: it has four stages. What are the different stages of sleep? The first three stages are just named by their number, as you can see below. They are collectively known as the non-REM sleep stages. The fourth stage is REM sleep, which stands for rapid eye movement sleep (read on to find out why).
There are so many factors to consider when you choose a new mattress for yourself these days. There are so many different materials to choose from, you can buy mattresses online that come in a box. It can be a bit overwhelming knowing quite where to start! The prices and quality of mattresses can vary wildly, and the most expensive one isn’t necessarily the best and most comfortable. I’ve created this handy Mattress Buying Guide (2019) to bring you up to date information on: choosing the type of mattress, where to buy your mattress, and what you need to know before you purchase your mattress.
I figured since I’m recommending you purchase a mattress online, it’s only right to offer you my experiences and thoughts of shopping for a mattress the traditional way: by going to the store, talking to the staff, and lying on the mattresses. Read all about my experiences and thoughts here.
I’ve been really racking my brain trying to figure out exactly what has caused this sleeplessness, and I thought I’d share with you some of the reasons why I might not be sleeping as well as usual and exactly what I am going to try to do to improve my sleep over the coming nights. Sleep is a big priority for me, as a mom to two kids under three, running the house and trying to keep this website awesome. Hopefully you find something you can try or learn for yourself in this post.
Take a moment to think about how your bedroom feels when you go to bed, if you haven’t made your bed. Is it exciting to get into a tangled mess of bedding? Does that feel nice and inviting? I don’t think so. I bet you don’t either. On the other hand, nothing looks more inviting and comfortable than a beautifully made bed. Having a properly made bed will change the atmosphere in your bedroom and make you feel great about going to bed. If you feel great about going to bed, and therefore more relaxed and open to sleep as you hit the bed, it could set you up for a better night’s sleep. Learn how to make your bed properly in five quick steps here.
While I’ve been writing my mattress reviews, I notice the same questions coming up over and over again. I thought a handy FAQ post was needed, so you can find all the answers to your burning questions about buying a mattress in a box in the one post.
This post is all about, all latex mattresses! They are the least common of the bunch, and are outsold by thousands of units by other mattress types. Sure, latex is used a lot in hybrid mattresses, or as a mattress topper. But actual mattresses made just of the stuff? Not so much. Does that mean you should write them off as being no good? Absolutely not. In fact, after researching different mattress materials and how they perform, I think latex mattresses are highly underrated.
Since I do not receive mattresses to test out for my reviews and rely on providing you a balanced overview of the opinions of others, I figure this is my absolute golden opportunity to share my personal experience of buying a mattress online.
Doesn’t life have a funny way of working out with timings? I need a new mattress! Yes, just two weeks after starting my mattress review site, my husband has announced that he wants to replace our mattress!
In the interests of full transparency, I thought It was important to write a short post that breaks down exactly how I gather my information for a review, then decide whether to recommend a product to you.
As you might know if you’ve read my “about” page, bestmattressforyou.com is run by just me. I do all the research, all the writing… everything!
