If you’ve read the blog here at bestmattressforyou.com in the past, you will be aware that my husband and I made our very own online mattress purchase at the start of January: we bought an Ecosa Memory Foam Mattress.

You may have read my previous posts about our journey so far with our Ecosa:

So now I figure it’s a good time to give you an update on how we are going with our Ecosa Memory Foam Mattress, which we have now owned and slept on every night for eight months.

We Passed The Trial Period And Got Rid Of Our Old Mattress

This was a big milestone for us. One of the biggest pros of buying a mattress online is that many companies give you extended trial periods to see if their mattress suits you.

Since this was our very first memory foam mattress, we wanted to make sure we took full use of the 100 night trial our Ecosa came with.

At the end of the trial period, we were more than happy to keep the mattress and finally scrapped our old mattress (which was interesting, we decided to recycle as much of it as we could, and kept the topper section). We had been hanging onto it like a security blanket just in case we decided to return the Ecosa mattress!

I can honestly say I  like how this mattress feels at the moment. It’s still firmer than I’d choose, but I’m sleeping well. I have said before: I prefer a slightly softer mattress, and with Ecosa being rated slightly firmer than medium, it did take a little adjusting to get used to it.

It is a well established fact that all memory foam mattresses will soften with time (soften, they should NOT sag) and I feel like this mattress is just right for me at the moment. It has softened a tiny little bit more since my two month update, but still feels strong, supportive, and is not sagging at all.

I like to lie on my side and read books before I go to sleep, and this is getting easier and easier as time goes on with this mattress. In case you didn’t know, side sleepers can get numb shoulders on a mattress that is too firm, I don’t get a numb shoulder no matter how long I lie on my side on my Ecosa. This was a bit of a problem for me in the earlier months with this mattress.

I pretty much always end up asleep on my back, and I feel like the Ecosa is providing support for my spine in all the right places.

I’m pretty pleased with how the mattress is performing. As you can imagine, I’ve been really analyzing it, knowing full well all the issues and problems people can face with a new mattress or a mattress that is not right for them. I’m happy to say this mattress is right for me, and the husband is sleeping well too.

The Mattress Setup

If you’ve done any research on Ecosa or have read my other articles, you’ll know that one of the cool features of this particular mattress is that you can switch out the comfort layers to change the feel of the mattress. As per my last update, we have left the medium foam layer at the top and this seems to work best for us.

So far, this is the only mattress I’ve come across in my research that you can customize yourself like this. Most others you need to add things like toppers to change the comfort levels.

The foam continues to feel very responsive, I often find myself testing it and feeling my hand spring back after I push down on it. No feelings of getting stuck “in” the mattress here.

Am I STILL Glad We Bought This, Or Would I Prefer Something Else?

I was happy to buy a memory foam mattress, partly out of curiosity from never having tried one. There were none available in our local shops either, so it was a bit of a leap of faith. Again, the 100 night trial period made this easier for us.

As a mattress reviewer, I’m constantly analyzing mattresses and weighing up their pros and cons. I research many, many, mattresses, and there are some really great ones out there. This means I can find it very easy to suffer from “shiny object syndrome”, where I really like the sound of another mattress and think I’d like to try it out.

BUT: I am very happy with my Ecosa. I have no need for another mattress. I do not get gifted mattresses and I live too far away for many of the most awesome online mattresses to ship to me. So there won’t be any other mattresses in my house any time soon.

When the time comes to replace this mattress, what will we do? At the moment, my absolute favorite mattress that I have reviewed is the Avocado Green Mattress (an eco-friendly hybrid). I would consider making that my next mattress purchase, if they ever decide to ship to New Zealand. For New Zealand options, I’d definitly go for Napp, as it’s a New Zealand made mattress that’s just a bit softer than Ecosa.

Summary

So, eight months in, I can sum up the experience so far by saying:

  • I am sleeping very well on my Ecosa mattress
  • The mattress has softened a little with time: this is expected and for me it is a welcome change. I really like the way it feels right now. It’s still firmer than I expected though.
  • It was a big milestone to pass the 100 night trial period, make sure you take full advantage of it
  • Stay tuned for the next Ecosa Mattress Update
