Cheap Memory Foam Mattress - Feature Image

If you’re looking for a cheap memory foam mattress you’ve got a lot of options. I’m here to help you figure out whether the cheap mattress you’re considering is any good (see my criteria below) and to help cut your search time down by sharing three of my favorite cheap memory foam mattresses with you.

These are all mattresses that start well under $500 and I would be happy to have any of them in my house. I do have a favorite of course, I’ll share which one that is with you further down the article.

Your Top Question: Are Cheap Memory Foam Mattresses Good?

Yes, they can be great. There are many cheap memory foam mattresses out there that have thousands of happy people sleeping on them every night.

Most memory foam mattresses have a high density foam core made of polyfoam, which can outlast a spring system from a more expensive mattress. Memory foam durability comes down to foam density, and while it’s true that you’ll find lower density memory foam in cheaper mattresses, it’s common in more expensive ones too. This means that just because a mattress is more expensive, does not necessarily mean it’s better!

Other indicators of whether a memory foam mattress is any good or not include:

  • Foam technologies: has the foam been infused with gel to help it keep cool? Has some other cooling system been used?
  • How much memory foam is inside the mattress? Does it have generous amounts of comfort foams or are they just a thin layer on top of the dense polyfoam core?
  • What’s the cover like: is it breathable? Is it durable?
  • Are the foams certified non-toxic by an external agency such as CertiPUR-US?

What you probably won’t  get from a cheap memory foam mattress:

  •  A long sleep trial
  • A warranty longer than 10 years (I’d expect any mattress using lots of low density foams to start to sag after around 2 – 3 years. Keep this in mind when making your purchase)
  • Personal customer service: my experience shows me that the best cheap memory foam mattresses are on Amazon, so you’ll be dealing with their great service instead of directly with the company. This is reassuring for you in terms of returns being honored and issues being chased up, but it can be unhelpful in terms of getting answers about the specific mattress you are interested in.

The three mattresses I’m recommending to you are all cheap memory foam mattresses that I’d consider “good”. I think they are mostly well suited to either guest rooms, where they will get occasional use, kids rooms, or for everyday use by an adult for a couple of years.

1. Zinus Green Tea – Best Innovations + Best Seller

The Zinus Green Tea Mattress is constantly at the top of the Amazon best seller chart. With its generous comfort foam layers, clever infusions of green tea and charcoal, extra cooling features and low price point, it’s not hard to see why.

I think it’s the best of the Zinus mattresses you can buy and the technologies inside it make it great value for money. This mattress comes in a range of thicknesses from 6 to 12 inches (6 inches is cheapest) – the thicker the mattress the more comfort foams you get so the 12 inch model is softer than the 6 inch model. I recommend the 10 inch model for a good balance of comfort and support.

  • Price: From just over $100 (Amazon prices fluctuate so I can’t give you the exact price, click on the link below to see today’s best price)
  • Warranty: 10 Years
  • CertiPUR-US Certified Foams

2. Revel – Best Price For Made In USA

The Revel Mattress is the only mattress I’m aware of at this price point that is made in the USA. That’s a big tick in favor of Revel, who sell their mattresses exclusively on Amazon. Revel also contains some great foam innovations for its price, like the Lifttex foam in its middle layer. This gives the mattress a nice responsive feel and pairs perfectly with the generous 3 inches of cooling gel memory foam in the top layer of the mattress.

Revel comes in the one height of 12 inches, which is more generous than many other mattresses that are twice the price. It’s rated around a 5 out of 10 for firmness, which in my opinion is a touch softer than a standard medium.

  • Price: From around $350 (Amazon prices fluctuate so I can’t give you the exact price, click on the link below to see today’s best price). Note that pretty much every other made in the USA mattress starts from double this price.
  • Warranty: 10 Years
  • CertiPUR-US Certified Foams

3. Linenspa – Best Budget Hybrid (This Is The One I Would Buy)

The Linenspa Memory Foam and Innerspring Hybrid Mattress is one of the best (if not the best) ultra budget mattresses that combines the comfort of memory foam with the support of steel coils. If you’re used to the feel of an innerspring mattress but want to try out memory foam, this is a great mattress for you. Available in 8 – 12 inch height options, I think the 10 inch model is the one that will work best for most people and is the mattress I would buy if I had to choose just one of these cheap memory foam mattresses to put in my own house.

Linenspa are one of the most responsive mattress sellers on Amazon, so if you do have a question or concern about this mattress, you’ll be reassured to see them being very active in replying to their customers and not just leaving everything up to the Amazon customer service team.

  • Price: From around $100 (Amazon prices fluctuate so I can’t give you the exact price, click on the link below to see today’s best price) – this is excellent value for a hybrid mattress!
  • Warranty: 10 Years
  • CertiPUR-US Certified Foams
