If you’re looking for a budget priced memory foam mattress that still has those great features such as gel infused foam and a 10 year warranty, you’re going to love this Modway Aveline Mattress review.
This popular mattress sells like hotcakes on Amazon, and has a TON of positive reviews.
As per usual, I’ve cast my critical eye over everything to bring you all the “must-know” information, pros and cons, and my personal opinion.
- COOLING MATTRESS - Aveline comes with gel-infused memory foam top layer that is open cell and ventilated. Sleep comfortably while reducing sweat and perspiration during hot or humid weather.
- SLEEP SOUNDLY - Reduce pressure on your head, neck and spine with an open cell memory foam queen mattress. Aveline helps align your spine and reduce pressure on your hips, lower back and shoulders.
- King Dimensions: 80" L x 76" W x 10" H
- INDEPENDENTLY TESTED - The foam inside is CertiPUR-US certified so you can be sure it’s made without formaldehyde, heavy metals, PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (”Tris”) flame retardants, and is low on VOC.
- CUSTOMER SATISFACTION - Over 98% of Aveline customers are satisfied with their purchase and buy more as the need arises. Back that up with our 10-year manufacturer warranty, and you can rest easy knowing you are purchasing a quality mattress at an exceptional price.

Overview
LexMod (short for Lexington Modern) and their wholesale division Modway were established more than 10 years ago. They consider themselves specialists in stocking trending furniture items, and have been featured on television and in magazines such as Dwell. They sell hundreds of different pieces of furniture for all rooms of the house. Their Modway mattresses are among their most popular items, and the Aveline mattress is their most popular mattress. I guess that means that out of the hundreds of items they sell, the Aveline mattress is one of the most popular of all!
Pros and Cons
The cons for this mattress are all pretty minor, in my opinion except for the 100 night trial being available via some sellers but not others. I thought it was a little strange that they are completely MIA on Amazon and that their staff only sporadically answer questions on their website (they seem to leave this up to the community). But that said, reviewers who have had to contact LexMod about their mattress have reported they have received great service from them. Of course if you buy from Amazon you’ll get Amazon’s usual good service.
Technical Info
Materials
The Modway Aveline mattress consists of two foam layers; a base foam and a memory foam. These are wrapped in a cover. The base layer is constructed from a dense polyurethane foam. The memory foam layer is a gel infused memory foam. The mattress comes with the reassuring CertiPUR-US certification which lets you know the mattress has not been made using hazardous chemicals.
The breakdown of the layer size in each different mattress thickness is:
- 6″ mattress has 4.5″ base and 1.5″ gel foam
- 8″ mattress has 6″ base and 2″ gel foam
- 10″ mattress has 7″ base and 3″ gel foam
The gel foam layer is designed for you to mold into it as you sleep to provide the best support for any pressure points. This is why it initially feels firm to the touch but simultaneously provides the majority of users with an excellent night’s sleep.
The outer removable cover is made of stretch knit with a diamond pattern in it.
The inner cover contains 50% glass fibers to act as the fire barrier required under federal law in memory foam mattresses. I am seeing this being used more and more as the fire barrier in memory foam mattresses, as people shy away from some of the chemicals that can be used as flame retardants.
Country of manufacture: China. If you prefer to purchase one of the rare budget priced mattresses made in the United States from all American parts, read this review instead.
If you buy the Aveline on Amazon, you will note that alongside the three foam categories, there is another called “premium”. It turns out that this is actually a separate mattress called called the Caroline, which is a more luxurious mattress. It is the same as the Aveline but the distinguishing luxury feature is an extra air cell memory foam layer on top of the gel infused memory foam. Caroline is also available in the full size range and Amazon reviews for both Aveline and Caroline are combined so it is hard to differentiate who actually bought what. I have assumed most are for a 10 inch Aveline mattress as that is by far and away the best seller in the range. I spent time on the LexMod website to gather separate information and reviews, even though reviews on company websites tend to be skewed towards the positive. There was only one question (unanswered) on the Caroline mattress page, so unfortunately I was unable to shed any light on whether this one is a better buy for your money than the Aveline itself. I’d recommend sticking to the Aveline for this reason.
The main benefit of Caroline over Aveline is that it is designed to “sleep cooler”. But feeling hot is not a common complaint with the Aveline so I don’t think this needs to be a major factor.
Shipping and Warranty
Warranty: the Modway Aveline Mattress comes with a 10 year warranty, which is standard for the industry. You might see some outdated information floating around showing this mattress to have a one year warranty.
Shipping: if you buy via Amazon and are a prime member, you’ll have the mattress at your door within 2 days. If you buy via LexMod, their quoted shipping time is 5-10 via FedEx Ground. Previous customers have reported their mattress arrived from LexMod within 3-5 days.
Who Is The Aveline Mattress Best Suited To?
The Modway Aveline mattress is suitable for most people, but there are a few notable exceptions that I need to mention.
This mattress is not for you if you like a very soft mattress. It is described by most as being on the firmer end of the scale. How firm a mattress feels can be quite subjective and also dependent on factors such as body weight, but the unanimous verdict on the Modway Aveline Mattress is that it has a medium firm- extra firm feel. It is important to remember it is designed to provide give and support at pressure points where needed but it’s not going to wrap you in a fluffy cloud.
A large number of the negative reviews for this mattress were due to people stating the mattress felt too firm for them. However, many of these people did not give the mattress more than a couple of nights try. Although it may seem a little bit like hard work, your body actually will need longer than this to adjust to the feel of the mattress and after about 30 days you should have an idea if it’s truly too firm for you. As I said above, a firm mattress is a great sleep surface for a wide range of people and I think some reviewers wrote their Aveline mattress off too quickly.
However, if you really want something soft or plush, I’ve reviewed another budget memory foam mattress with a softer feel. Read the review here.
This mattress is not suitable for heavier people in my opinion. Users weighing over 220lb have felt less supported than they would have liked when sleeping on this mattress so you might want to opt for something like a Snuggle Pedic which can easily take up to 500lb per person instead.
If you are a combo sleeper (someone who likes to alternate between sleeping on their back/side/stomach throughout the night), you may find that the way the gel molds around your body as you sleep makes you feel a little bit stuck. The bed won’t suck you down a black hole or anything, but some might find this slightly annoying. If this idea bothers you, you may need a different mattress.
If you suffer from back pain, this could be a great mattress for you. Countless reviewers of this mattress have reported it helped immensely with how their back feels.
This mattress is also great for people who are worried about getting hot in their sleep as the gel helps keep the mattress cool.
FAQ
- What are the dimensions of each mattress size?
- Is there a 100 night trial when I first receive the mattress?
- Yes, there is but only if you purchase direct from LexMod. Amazon purchases are subject to Amazon’s standard 30 day return policy.
- Help! I’m finding it too firm but don’t want to give up on it yet. What can I do to make it a bit softer right now?
- If you think the mattress needs a little “breaking in” try walking over it evenly. Don’t jump! I can speak from personal experience of doing this on a new memory foam mattress we recently purchased that it helped quite a lot. The other option is to add a soft mattress topper to act as an additional comfort layer.
How To Use
This may seem like a strange section to include in a mattress review. Open, lay out, sleep, right?? Well, basically. But I have noticed, from reading the negative reviews, that if people had maybe used their mattress a little differently or had slightly different expectations of it, they could have had a much better experience with their new mattress.
- When opening the mattress for decompression, make sure the room you’re doing it in has some airflow to encourage any minor off-gassing odor to dissipate quickly.
- Allow 24 hours for the mattress to fully decompress. You can sleep on it before this time though: it should be mostly decompressed within 2-4 hours.
- Be prepared for it to feel quite firm and for it to mold around your body as your pressure points sink into the gel memory foam layer for support.
- This mattress will suit any flat, stable foundation. However, if you are using it on a slat bed, LexMod recommends the slats be no wider than 3 inches apart.
What are people who love this mattress doing differently to others?
In this section of my reviews, I usually give some extra, pro tips that fit in with “how to use” that people who are having a great experience with the mattress are doing. I include it because sometimes negative reviews or a better experience could be avoided. So what do real users recommend on top of the usual “how to’s” above?
- They buy it expecting it not to be soft. They understand it is a firmer mattress, but that this will provide support and their body will adjust to the firmness level with time.
- If they want a softer or larger mattress (say 12 inch, which the Aveline does not come in), they add a mattress topper and it solves the issue.
- They expect (like with pretty much all memory foam mattresses) that there will be some off-gassing odor. They open the mattress in a ventilated room and usually find the smell has gone within 24 hours.
My Conclusion
I believe this is a good quality mattress for the price and it is one I’d definitely consider for my own house. Especially considering that my husband has a niggly sore back and really likes a medium to firm sleep surface. That said though, I think LexMod could do better by extending the 100 night sleep trial into other places they sell the mattress. Particularly Amazon, as they sell thousands of the Aveline mattress there every month. I found myself pointing readers towards other mattresses I had reviewed that meet criteria the Aveline doesn’t. But, I believe that overall it is a good mattress for the price and a good, smart buy if you want a firm bed. It is an Amazon high achiever because from what I can tell, it does exactly what it says it will do, at a good price.
Best place to buy
You get a good level of customer service no matter whether you buy direct or through LexMod, and there’s no difference in sleep trial. Both run regular discounts so I highly recommend you compare the current prices on both sites to see which offers you the best price (my links show the best price automatically)
