How The Phase Change Cooling Technology Works

Phase change technology has been used by NASA for a while, and the benefits have been trickling down into products that regular people can buy. It’s popular to use in fabrics: you’ll find it in things like sports clothes and bedding.

The technology consists of tiny molecules, called phase change molecules. These are tiny little capsules that contain a thermoregulating material (the exact composition of these is always a closely guarded patent). The molecules are either sprayed onto the surface of a fabric, or permanently locked into the fiber during manufacture. Either way, you don’t feel or notice them, apart from them working their cooling magic.

The molecules work by absorbing and regulating excess heat. The material inside the molecules starts out as a solid, then transforms to a liquid as it absorbs heat and transfers it out of the fabric.

Essentially, the Helix Ultra Cool Pad takes in excess heat from any point and disperses it. It not only helps you relax when you get into bed (we need a cooler body temperature to help us fall asleep), it also works to regulate your body temperature through the night.

You don’t need to be in direct contact with the pad for it to work its cooling magic: you can still use your mattress protector and sheets on top of it and it will regulate your body temperature as you sleep. Of course it won’t feel cold to touch with layers of fabrics on top of it, but it will still work beautifully.

The phase change molecules inside the Helix Ultra Cool Pad are infused with a color change technology, so you can actually see it working.

Is The Helix Ultra Cool Pad A Good Buy?

Well, I certainly think so. First of all, this is a nice mattress pad. It will do a great job of sitting firmly on your mattress, giving it a soft touch.

I think the price is fully justified given the quality of materials and the cooling technology inside. I’ve seen mattress pads from other brands that cost more than this without the cooling or antimicrobial properties. The phase change molecules is a really nice luxury touch, and it’s something you usually pay a lot for to add to a mattress.
