The Breeze is Tempur-Pedic’s “most rewarded” mattress. That means that a bunch of other independent reviewers (like me) have said it’s “best cooling mattress” or “best overall mattress” or best something or other. In this Tempur-Pedic Breeze mattress review I want to take you through:
- Is The Tempur Breeze Worthy Of Those Awards? (Spoiler alert: the answer is SOME)
- Is It The Best Tempur-Pedic Mattress Of The Tempur Range (I’ll tell you if I’d choose it for myself)
- A Look Inside The Tempur Pedic Breeze Mattress
Is The Tempur-Pedic Breeze Mattress Worthy Of Awards?
Let’s examine them:
1. Best Cooling Mattress
This accolade was given to the Tempur-Breeze mattress by GoodHouseKeeping.com and I think it is well deserved. Why?
All memory foam mattresses need some cooling innovations so they don’t trap heat, and Tempur have really hit it out of the park with what they’ve put into their Tempur-Breeze mattress:
- The cover is one of the most technical I’ve come across: the cover features a dual fabric weave, and actually feels cool to touch (I’ve touched one, it’s weird how cold it feels).
- Under the cover you’ve got a layer of phase change material, which is a luxury feature for cooling.
- Then you get ANOTHER layer of trademarked Tempur material designed to beat heat and humidity.
All those things are before you even get to the foam layers of the mattress, which are also ventilated. Tempur comes out and says their PRObreeze is up to 3 degrees cooler than other memory foam mattreses, while the LUXEbreeze is up to 8 degrees cooler. I think it’s pretty cool that they’ve been able to come out and say some numbers here, rather than vague promises of “cooling”.
2. Best Overall Mattress (2020)
This is where things start to get a bit tricky. Yes, I agree that Tempur is an extremely high quality mattress that performs well, but for me to say that something is the best overall, I also factor in:
- Is it the best value for money?
- Is it going to feel comfortable to most people?
- Is it a good company to buy from?
- Does the mattress do what it says?
In my opinion, the answer is not “YES” to all those questions, so it’s not my top overall mattress. Great cooling mattress – YES. Do what it says – YES. Great company to buy from and great quality – YES.
BUT: I think something like Saatva offers better value for money, and more universal comfort and is better suited to a “best overall” prize.
Is It The Best Mattress Of The Tempur Range?
Short answer: YES. I truly think it is. If I were buying a Tempur mattress, I’d buy a Breeze. There are 5 reasons why:
- It has 3 – 4 times more cooling features than the other Tempur mattresses. This is important because Tempur uses incredibly dense foams in their mattress, which can trap heat easily.
- It’s one of their mattresses that comes in the full range of soft, medium, firm AND offers you a hybrid option in the medium.
- It’s got one of the highest star ratings from real customers at 4.6 stars out of 5 (that’s a really high satisfaction rating)
- You’ve got two options so you can choose your cooling level (3 or 8 degrees)
- You can choose your height profile (12 inches for the PRObreeze, 13 inches for the LUXbreeze) – Breeze is the only Tempur mattress where you have this choice.
However, if you’re specifically looking for a mattress to relieve back pain, you should also consider the Tempur Adapt range.
The model I’d get for myself would be the PRObreeze, in medium hybrid. Why? Well, PRObreeze is a bit cheaper than LUXEbreeze, but it’s got plenty of great cooling going on. I also think the medium feel would suit me best, and the hybrid construction with the coils (not available for LUXEbreeze, only PRO) makes up for the fact it’s got one less cooling layer than the LUXEbreeze. Air will flow through those coils nicely.
Yes, the Tempur-Breeze mattress is the most expensive mattress of the Tempur range, but I want you to think about the benefits it’s going to give you over its 10 year life. Tempur is an expensive mattress brand anyway, and I think if you’re going to invest in Tempur you should absolutely go the whole way and get yourself a Tempur-Breeze.
A Look Inside The Tempur-Pedic Breeze Mattress
I’m going to keep this section brief, because I don’t want to just regurgitate info you can get on the Tempur website. I’d rather spend my time giving you my opinions, like in the sections above so let’s just take a quick look:
PRObreeze (My Top Choice)
- Cooling innovations: cooling cover, phase change material, and humidity regulating layer.
- Firmness rating: medium, which I think is going to be the most universally comfortable.
- Mattress height: 12 inches.
- Mattress support system: your choice of foam or coils (go for coils, they add another cooling dimension)
All Tempur mattresses come with free delivery, a 90 day in-home sleep trial and a 10 year warranty. They’re made in the USA. Tempur is NOT a mattress in a box: Tempur material is too dense to be compressed into a box. Your Tempur will be delivered at its full size. Tempur will set your new mattress up for you in your house for free (COVID-19 restrictions allowing).
LUXEbreeze
- Cooling innovations: cooling cover, phase change material, humidity regulating layer and ventilated pressure relieving foam.
- Firmness rating: your choice of soft (great for lighter weight side sleepers) or firm (the firm LUXEbreeze would be my pick for heavier stomach sleepers as it combines great cooling with the firmest support for your spine + hips).
- Mattress height: 13 inches.
- Mattress support system: foam core
