Puffy Mattress Pad – Do You Need It?
The Puffy Mattress Pad is a mattress pad made from a blend of natural and man-made fibers. Designed to add a layer of cloud like softness to the top of your mattress, it’s a generous 2 inches high. Read all the details, including what real customers think and how the Puffy Mattress Pad compares to the Puffy Mattress Topper here.
What’s Inside The Puffy Mattress Pad?
The Puffy Mattress Pad is Oeko-Tex Certified, so you can rest assured it has been safely and sustainably manufactured.
It is 2 inches high, which is quite plush for a mattress pad (many of which are only around 1 inch).
Cover: 383 Thread count cotton. This is not a cotton blended with polyester, it’s 100% cotton. The cover feels soft to the touch and is breathable.
You can see the cover has been box stitched (the squares you can see sewn into the cover, like a quilting). This is to ensure the filling of the mattress pad remains evenly distributed.
Filling: 2 Inches of packed 1200 GSM Hypoallergenic Ball Fiber Polyester filling.
The mattress pad stays firmly attached to your mattress with stretch pockets. They will fit mattresses up to 15 inches deep. These pockets mean less slipping and better overall mattress protection.
What Does The Puffy Mattress Pad Feel Like?
The Puffy mattress pad has been designed to feel, well, Puffy! You can tell just by looking at it that it’s fluffier than a foam filled topper. Its main function is to increase the softness of your current mattress by providing a light cushion through the top. Almost like a pillow-top.
Puffy Mattress Pad Prices
The Puffy Mattress Pad is at the top end of the price range that I’d pay for a polyester filled pad, even with the natural cotton cover. The fact that it’s a plush 2 inches deep and comes with the 101 night trial and lifetime warranty are the factors that make it worth the spend.

What Do Real Users Think Of It?
After reading through as many reviews as I could find, the verdict from real customers seems to be that people find it does exactly what it should. It adds a nice plush layer to add some softness to your mattress.
Customers who particularly enjoy the Puffy Mattress Pad are those who found their mattress a bit firm on its own, but were happy with the support from the mattress.
Puffy are very helpful in guiding people towards the pad or the topper based on their needs. Basically, if you’re looking for a touch of softness, the pad is the right choice. If you’re looking for softness and contouring then the topper is the right choice (more on the differences between the two in the next section).
Here are some comments from real customers about the Puffy Mattress Pad:
“I really like the Puffy Mattress Pad. I get sore shoulders, but with the pad I wake up with no pain”.
“I own a Puffy mattress and I like it, so I bought the pad to go with it and it has enhanced my sleep.”
“We love the pad, it’s very soft and puffy.”
There were a few comments people made about some small issues they had: some people found the pad needed fluffing up every now and then, despite the box stitching. Another thing that was mentioned was that some sheets did not fit with the pad on their mattress. Remember, the Puffy mattress pad is a luxurious 2 inches thick, so if you’re putting it on top of a mattress that’s already quite deep (like the Puffy Royal), you may need some new sheets.
How Does The Puffy Mattress Pad Compare With The Puffy Mattress Topper?
The Puffy Mattress Pad and the Puffy Mattress Topper may sound similar to start with, but they actually have quite different functions. They are priced similarly and both have the deep pocket sheet fitting to go snugly on your mattress.
The mattress pad is designed to add a softer cushion-like layer to a mattress, while the topper is designed do that and give more support and contouring. You can also choose to buy the topper in a firm feel, so if you need to make your mattress harder, the topper rather than the pad is a good choice.
The cover of the topper is bamboo (blended with polyester), so it’s a different material than the topper (cotton), but both should be breathable and soft to touch.
The topper is also two inches thick, but as it contains two inches of memory foam inside it instead of the fluffy filling in the pad, it’s going to give cushioning pressure relief.
In my opinion, the mattress pad is best for people who feel like their mattress is a bit “flat” to lie on and want a more pillowy surface. The topper, with its memory foam inside, will change the feel of the mattress more significantly and also give more contouring.

Should You Buy It?
If you’re looking to soften your mattress without changing how your mattress works, the Puffy mattress pad will work well for you. The pillowy feel and plush depth will give you exactly what you want, while the 101 night sleep trial and lifetime warranty make it an easy purchase to make online.
If you’re looking to change more about your bed, for example if you want to add something to improve back pain, add more contouring, or make your mattress firmer, then a mattress topper will be the way to go. You can either try the Puffy Topper, or the Avocado Green latex topper, which has a massive one year sleep trial.
