So you’ve decided to buy a latex mattress. You’ve heard that latex is the most durable material and is high quality and hypoallergenic. But you’ve also heard that latex might feel different than what you’re used to, and that it costs more. So how are you to choose the best latex mattress for you?

Latex is my all time favorite mattress material, and I’ve rounded up the three latex mattresses I consider to be the best of the best. They are all high quality, suit a range of budgets, and offer generous in-home sleep trials so you can try them out risk free. Read on to find out which three latex mattresses are the pick of the bunch. I also reveal which one I would buy if I was replacing my bed (I don’t get free mattresses to review for my articles, and I would actually love to buy this mattress).

Latex Mattress FAQ

What is the best latex mattress on the market?

The answer to this will be different for different people. Factors such as budget and the firmness of the mattress are factors that will change what different people consider to be the “best”.

The three I’ve chosen to share with you as my top three are slightly different to each other, and I truly believe they are the best on the market as:

  1. Best hybrid latex mattress
  2. Best latex only mattress, and
  3. Best latex mattress for those on a budget.

These mattresses all have differences that mean there’s something here to suit everyone, but they all have the following things in common:

  • they only use natural latex (no synthetic latex here)
  • they are high quality
  • the companies that make these mattresses have amazing customer service
  • they all offer generous sleep trials and warranties
  • they all have a ton of happy customers

Why is a latex mattress the best?

There are three key answers to this question, and they tie into the benefits of a natural latex mattress which I outline below.

The three reasons a latex mattress could be the best choice for you are:

  1. As long as you choose NATURAL latex, you’ll be buying a very high quality mattress that will have a longer life expectancy than other mattress types.
  2. If you suffer from common allergies such as dust mite allergy or you are worried about mold, latex is the best choice for you because it is naturally hypoallergenic AND breathable
  3. Latex is great at supporting your body as you sleep. It will contour your pressure points in a way you won’t have experienced before: with latex, when you put body weight on it, you get super fast responsiveness but you won’t sink into it.

What are the benefits of a latex mattress?

There are loads of benefits to choosing a natural latex mattress. Here’s a quick summary of the most compelling reasons:

  • Durability (many people report owning latex mattresses that have
lasted 20 years) – which is usually backed up by a strong company
    warranty backing their mattress
  • All natural materials (as long as you choose a natural latex
mattress, not synthetic or blended latex), some are even made from
    organic latex
  • Natural latex can be sustainably sourced
  • Hypoallergenic: latex is naturally repellent to dust mites and bed bugs
  • Sleeps cool: latex naturally dissipates body heat

You can see that there are lots of reasons why latex mattresses are the best, and have good benefits for you. This does mean they come at a bit more of a luxury price tag than an inferior foam mattress, but the quality of materials, durability, and comfort you’ll get from a latex mattress is worth much more than the price difference. You won’t regret buying a latex mattress.

Which is better, memory foam or latex mattress?

Here are the key differences between memory foam and latex mattresses. Each have their pros and cons.

  • Latex is cooler and more breathable
  • Latex is more durable
  • Latex will be better for stomach sleepers or heavier people
  • Latex is more environmentally friendly
  • Memory foam has better motion isolation
  • Memory foam is usually cheaper

I’ve written a full article about latex mattresses vs memory foam mattresses, you can it read here if you’d like more information. In my opinion latex is a better buy than memory foam because it has more pros than cons.

My 3 Best Latex Mattresses For 2022 Are:

Avocado Green: Best Latex Hybrid Mattressbest latex mattress - avocado green image

This is my favorite latex mattress with a hybrid construction. If you’re unsure what a hybrid is, it means a mattress with a coil support system and a comfort layer made from some type of foam. So here in the Avocado Green, you get latex for the comfort layer of the mattress, with the familiar support system of coiled springs. For many people considering buying a latex mattress for the first time, a hybrid gives them the best of both worlds.

  • Two size options: standard (contains 3 inches of latex) and pillow top (contains 5 inches of latex)
  • Hybrid construction with zoned support coils to target specific pressure points
  • Organic materials feature strongly in the cover and comfort layer: organic cotton, organic wool and organic latex
  • One year sleep trial and 25 year warranty
  • Priced from $899 with free shipping (follow my link below to ensure you get a discount)

As well as the features above, Avocado wins a lot of points for being an environmentally friendly company: they are a carbon zero company and donate a portion of their profits to environmental causes. They make their mattresses by hand in the USA and have great customer service.

Avocado wins my rating as the top hybrid latex mattress for its quality materials and thoughtful construction. The zoning of the springs in the support core of the mattress give you support and comfort right where you need it, making it suitable for a wide range of sleepers. There are other luxury features you won’t find on mattresses at this price point such as hand tufting on the cover, which not only looks beautiful but serves to hold the mattress together nicely. It’s a high quality touch.

The standard Avocado is rated 7 out of 10 for firmness, which is a “medium- firm” feel that should suit most people. The pillow top Avocado is rated a 6 out of 10 so it’s that bit softer.

Don’t just take it from me, Consumer Reports has rated the Avocado Green as one of the best mattresses available for 3 years in a row.

PlushBeds Botanical Bliss: Best All Latex Mattress

PlushBeds have three latex mattresses in their range. The Botanical Bliss is their best-selling, flagship mattress, with a latex comfort layer and a latex support core. It earns it’s spot in my “best of” list for its use of organic latex and ability to customize the feel of the mattress to exactly how you want it. See the picture below to get a visual idea of how you work it.

  • Three size options: 9, 10, or 12 inch
  • All latex construction, with either 3 or 4 layers of organic latex depending on height purchased
  • Organic materials throughout the entire mattress: organic cotton, organic wool, and organic latex
  • 100 night sleep trial and 25 year warranty
  • Priced from $2099 (but PlushBeds often run promos with deep discounts, my link will take you to the best deals)

PlushBeds are a long established and well loved company who specialize in latex mattresses and toppers. They are one of the rare companies who use only organic latex in their mattress.

Organic latex is one of the most expensive materials you could have inside a mattress so to have a mattress made entirely of organic latex is a real luxury. This is a big part of why this mattress is on my list, you just can’t find that much organic latex out there. Natural? Sure. Organic? Not so much.

I love the fact that you can move the layers around inside of the mattress until you have it feeling exactly right for you. This is a clever design from PlushBeds, and ensures every customer gets the sleep fit that is just right for them.

Pure Green: Best All Latex Mattress For People On A Budget

best latex mattress - pure green mattress image

Last but certainly not least is the Pure Green Latex Mattress from Sleep On Latex. Sold on Amazon, this is an all latex mattress that will please those who are not on a luxury budget. It takes out a spot on my “best of” list for its popularity, amazing customer service, and use of natural latex.

  • Three firmness options (soft, medium-firm, firm); “medium firm” is the most popular and suits the widest range of people
  • All latex construction with 8 total inches of natural latex
  • Organic materials in the cover: organic wool and organic cotton (note the latex here is NOT organic, but it is natural)
  • 100 night sleep trial and 10 year warranty
  • Prices vary depending on Amazon specials (see the best price by clicking below)

Sleep On Latex really stand out on Amazon for two reasons. First, their customer service is amazing. They go through and reply to every single customer comment on their products (and there are a lot of comments). Second, they offer you a 100 night sleep trial, which is a rarity on Amazon. Most companies selling on there only give you 30, which is barely enough to get a feel for a mattress.

The Pure Green offers amazing value for money with its full natural latex construction, no synthetics here. Why is it so much cheaper than the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress above? Because it is not organic latex, it has slightly less latex, you cannot move the layers around inside, and the warranty is shorter.

The Pure Green latex mattress offers a high quality latex mattress option for those looking to try their first all latex mattress without breaking the bank. I really like this one.

If It Were Me, I Would Buy:

Without a doubt, I would go for the Avocado Green mattress. It’s also my best rated organic latex mattress. Here’s why:

  • My personal preference is a hybrid construction. Avocado simply makes the best latex hybrid around
  • Avocado’s green ethos fits well with what I am expecting more and more of from retailers
  • The generous 1 year sleep trial is unparalleled
  • Avocado make beautiful high quality accessories that pair beautifully with the mattress
  • It’s a high quality mattress without the massive price tag. Yes it’s more expensive than some foam mattresses, but not by much, and the quality is just in a different league.
