Latex Mattress NZ: You’ve got quite a few options here. I’m going to help you sort through some of the most popular ones to find the best latex mattress for you. Of course I’ll also let you know which one I’d buy if I were you. I’ve looked at what’s available online and in stores, and chosen a good range to show you.

Here’s exactly what we’ll cover in this Latex Mattress NZ overview:

  • Why Latex Is A Great Mattress Material
  • How To Choose Your Latex Mattress
  • Compare 5 Top Latex Mattress NZ Options
  • My Top Recommendation

Why Latex Is A Great Mattress Material

If you’re searching for a latex mattress, chances are you’re already well aware of the benefits. In case you’re not, here’s the highlights:

  • Available in natural or even organic latex mattresses sometimes, it’s the most “chemical free” material you’ll find. Latex foam is made from the sap of the rubber tree, commonly found in South East Asia and Africa
  • Latex is naturally breathable so it’s great for helping you regulate your body tempurature through the night (you shouldn’t feel hot sleeping on a latex mattress with good bedding)
  • Latex is extremely durable: you can expect a high quality latex mattress to last 20 years or more. This is more than double the 8-10 years you’d get from a memory foam or coil mattress
  • Latex is extremely responsive: it will offer amazing pressure relief when you lie on it but you won’t sink in. It also has a bit of bounce

I really like latex mattresses. I find them extremely comfortable and I like that they’re natural and very supportive. I’m not due a mattress upgrade for a good number of years but when I next do, a latex mattress is high on my list.

How To Choose Your Latex Mattress

There are a few things to look out for when choosing your latex mattress. These are all factors I’ve considered in choosing mattresses to recommend to you. Here they are:

  • Is the latex natural? If so, what percentage? This is important because it does require chemicals to get latex from its liquid rubber form into its mattress foam form. Look for a company that can guarantee you the highest possible proportion of natural latex (the highest I’ve seen is 96%) and a good washing of the latex after the foaming process.
  •  If the company is claiming organic, do they have the organic certifcations to back that up?
  • Can the company show you their latex has been sustainably farmed?
  • What is the thickness of the mattress? I think 20 cm is a good guide. Latex is an extremely heavy and expensive material so I think you’ll struggle to find any taller than this (a memory foam mattress in a box will stand at around 27cm tall for reference)
  • If you’re buying in a store, your options for a full latex mattress are going to be limited. There are more options online, some of which are fantastic. If you’re buying online, look for: a risk free in-home sleep trial, low delivery costs (free is even better), a good warranty, and different firmness options for you to try

My Top Recommendation

So how do you choose the best one of all those options? I think there’s a pretty clear winner, actually. It’s got to be Peacelily. Here’s how it ticks all the boxes:

  • Best value for money with the full price range being $1099 – $2049 (the super king is cheaper than some single sizes of the competition)
  • 20cm of latex
  • Natural latex (96% natural) and certified organic cotton
  • Two mattresses in one: gentle firm on one side, firm on the other. This makes it a great choice for people who aren’t sure which option is going to be the best for them.
  • Free delivery
  • A totally risk-free in home sleep trial, with a refund guaranteed if you don’t like the mattress (although Peacelily reports they get very few returns, they have a lot of happy customers)

Peacelily can afford to offer such excellent value for money because they are online only. They don’t have any stores to run, and are therefore able to offer you the most competitive price. They absolutely don’t skimp on quality: theirs is a top rate mattress with quality finishes like hand stitching.

Peacelily’s the easy winner for me, and if I was buying a mattress out of these options, choosing Peace Lily would be a total no-brainer.
